Description[edit | edit source]
Weakley County was named for Colonel Robert Weakley, a member of the House of Representatives, a speaker of the State Senate, and the man commissioned to the treaty with the Chickasaw. The county is located in the northwestern area of the state.[2]

Record Loss[edit | edit source]

1948 Fire damaged courthouse records.[5] At the 1948 fire, a large number of chancery and circuit court files were discarded. They passed into the keeping of a private citizen, and in 1995 the files were given to the University of Tennessee at Martin, where they constitute MS 4 and MS 2, respectively. Special Collections.
