Smith County was named for Daniel Smith, a Revolutionary War veteran who made the first map of Tennessee and served as a United States senator. The county is located in the north-central area of the state.[2]

Additional Information
Middle Tennessee county established in 1799. The northern part of the county belonged to the pioneer Cumberland Settlements.[7]
The county is named after "American Revolutionary War officer and U.S. Senator Daniel Smith (1748-1818)."[8]
