Kent County was divided from Northumberland County in 1826. The parishes of Wellington and Carleton were created in 1814 in Northumberland County. When the county was created in 1826, the parishes of Huskisson, Harcourt and Dundas were created from parts of Wellington. Liverpool was created from Carleton, but it was renamed Richibucto in 1832. Weldford was created in 1835 from Richibucto. In 1855, Palmerston was set off from Carleton and Richibucto but it was renamed St. Louis in 1866. St. Mary's was separated from Wellington in 1867.Acadieville was erected in 1876 from Carleton, and St. Paul was established in 1883 from St. Mary and Harcourt. St. Charles was created in 1908.
