DEAL (St. Leonard), a sea-port, market-town, and parish, and a member of the town and port of Sandwich, in the union of Eastry, hundred of Cornilo, lathe of St. Augustine, E division of Kent, on the coast of which it is situated, between the North and South Forelands, and near the great shipping roadstead, called the Downs, 18 miles ESE from Canterbury, and 72 E by S from London. There are places of worship for Baptists, Independents, Wesleyans and Unitarians.[1]
"Deal, a town, a parish, and a sub-district in Eastry district, Kent. It may have been the place of Caesar’s landing 55 years before the Christian era; it was known at Domesday as Addelam; it was the place of Perkin Warbeck’s landing in 1495; it received Anne of Cleves, after her voyage, in 1540; it was attacked by Prince Charles in 1648; it belt an earthquake shock in 1692; and it was the landing place of Adelaide, the Queen of William IV." [2]
Upper Deal St Leonard is the Ancient Parish church of Deal. From this parish were formed Deal St George, Kent and Deal St Andrew, Kent
