CUXTON (St. Michael), a parish, in the union of North Aylesford, hundred of Shamwell, lathe of Aylesford, W division of Kent, 3 miles WSW from Rochester.[1]
COOKSTONE.NOW usually called and written Cuxton, lies the next parish northward from Halling. It is written in Domesday, Coclestane, and in the Textus Rossensis, Cucolanstan and Cuclestena. This parish, with others in this neighbourhood, was antiently bound to contribute to the repair of of the first pier of Rochester-bridge.[2]
Cuxton St Michael is an Ancient Parish on the left bank of the River Medway opposite Rochester and includes the hamlet of Lower Bush.
The church dates from the 12th century with additions in subsequent centuries and was restored in 1863-1868. [3]
