Parish History[edit | edit source]

GOODNESTON (St. Bartholomew), a parish, in the union and hundred of Faversham, Upper division of the lathe of Scray, E division of Kent, 2 miles E from Faversham. [1]

"Goodnestone-next-Faversham is, ecclesiastically, in the diocese of Canterbury, in the archdeaconry of Canterbury and in the deanery of Ospringe. The church is named for St. Bartholomew with registers commencing 1569."[2]
"Goodnestone, St Bartholomew's Church. A small Norman church looking out over the stately home and garden of Goodnestone Court. The church dates to about 1100, but the porch was rebuilt after an earthquake in 1837...St Bartholomew's is no longer used for regular worship and is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust, who keep it open on a daily basis."[3]

This parish should not be confused with Goodnestone (near Sandwich), Kent (Holy Cross).
