Parish History

STANSTED (St. Mary), a parish, in the union of Malling, hundred of Wrotham, lathe of Aylesford, W division of Kent, 2 miles N from Wrotham. [1]

Stansted (sometimes spelled Stanstead in older records) is a village and civil parish in the Tonbridge and Malling district of Kent. Stansted Kent Wikipedia It should not be confused with Stanstead Mountfitchet, Essex

Stanstead St Mary the Virgin is an Ecclesiastical Parish in the Diocese of Rochester which includes Fairseat and Vigo within the parish boundary; a map of the boundary may be viewed at A church near you

It is a mediaeval church which until 1846 had been provided with a curacy in the parish of Wrotham, Kent It had been created a parish between 1647-1660 by Act of Parliament but reverted to a Chapel of ease from 1660-1846.

The church of St Mary Plaxdale Green Road has been designated as a grade II* listed building British listed building.
