HARDRES, LOWER (St. Mary), a parish, in the union of Bridge, hundred of Bridge and Petham, lathe of St. Augustine, E division of Kent, 3 miles S from Canterbury.[1]
"Lower Hardres is, ecclesiastically, in the diocese of Canterbury, in the archdeaconry of Canterbury and in the deanery of Canterbury. The church is named for St. Mary with registers commencing 1563.
Lower Hardres, or Nether Hardres, a parish in Bridge district, Kent; on Stane Street, 3 miles east-south-east of Chartham rail station, and 3-1/4 south of Canterbury..."[2]
The Hardres family owned the two villages (nearby Upper Hardres, Kent ) from the 12th century.
