Parish History[edit | edit source]
HERNHILL (St. Michael), a parish, in the union of Faversham, hundred of Boughton-under-Blean, Upper division of the lathe of Scray, E division of Kent, 3½ miles E by S from Faversham.[1]

Hernhill St Michael is an Ancient Parish in the Diocese of Canterbury; the church is the third to be built on the site. The parish includes the hamlets of Crockham, Dargate, The Fostall, Lamberhurst, Oakwell, Staple Street, Thread, Waterham and Wey Street.
The Saxon wooden church was replaced in 1120 by a stone and wood church dedicated to St Stephen.
The present church dates from 1450 and was rebuilt in 1833 and restored in 1867 and 1877, with a further extension in 1927 and 1997 refurbished bell tower.
The church of St Michael, Church Hill, Hernhill is designated a grade I listed building by English Heritage British listed building.
