Parish History[edit | edit source]
Folkestone is, ecclesiastically, in the archdeaconry of Canterbury and in the deanery of Dover. [1]
Christ Church was formed from Folkestone St Mary and St Eanswythe, Kent Ancient Parish as a church for mariners and fishermen.
The church was consecrated on 27th July 1850 and destroyed by a German bomb on 17th May 1942. As part of the development of the town churches it was followed by Folkestone Holy Trinity and St Peter.
Folkestone Holy Trinity with Christ Church is the United benefice in the Diocese of Canterbury.
The Wesleyan Methodist Chapel dates from 1866; Independent Baptist and Society of Friends Chapels were also built.
