Brief History[edit | edit source]
22nd Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Montogmery, Alabama, in November, 1861. Its companies were raised in the counties of Walker, Clarke, Cherokee, Mobile, Pike, Choctaw, Montgomery, Calhoun, and Randolph. The regiment was included in the surrender on April 26, 1865.[1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
Companies by County:
- Company A - many men from Walker County
- Company B "Frank Lyon Rifles" - many men from Clarke County
- Company C "Brownrigg Warriors" - many men from Choctaw County
- Company D - many men from Cherokee County
- Company E - many men from Calhoun County
- Company F - many men from Randolph County
- Company G - many men from Randolph County
- Company H "Sam Cooper Rifles" - many men from Mobile County
- Company I - many men from Pike County
- Company K - many men from Montgomery County and Pike County
The list of companies with their counties is found on history-sites.com web site.
