Wiki Project Ohio Tasks - Vital Records Other Repositories
Description
The purpose of this task is to add a template for other repositories for vital records. Add links to WorldCat, and FamilySearch Catalog (FS Catalog).
This task is an intermediate task and requires some knowledge about or experience with writing in wikitext.

To Print:
- Go to the top right-hand corner of the page within the the white area.
- Locate the word Print or the icon of a printer. Click on the icon.
- Print.
Instructions
1. Not all counties have records included in this task. Check the Assignment Chart below to choose a county to edit.
2. Sign up on the Assignment Chart to accept the task. Sign-up instructions are posted with the Assignment Chart below.
3. Click on your chosen county name in the Assignment Chart. This will take you to your county page.
4. Login to the FamilySearch wiki using your FamilySearch login name and password. Find the sign-in area in the top right-hand corner of the page.
5. Click on the Vitals Records section in the Contents. This will take you to the Vitals Records section where the Birth, Marriage and Death Sections of the page are located.
6. On the right side of the Vitals Records heading, click on the edit button that looks like a pencil in a box. This takes you to the Editing of that section.
7. Click on the word wikitext with in toolbox at the top left side of the edit box.
8. Copy the following template and paste it in wiki text under the last information in the
=== Vital Records === Section:

9. In the template, replace the county Adams with the name of the county you are working on.
10. In the template, change the numbers listed with the numbers you obtain from doing the following:
- While in the new FS Catalog on FamilySearch:
- a. Put your county into the search "For" field, i.e. Adams, Ohio.
- b. Click on the county name as it appears beneath what you are typing, and hit the Search button.
- c. Select the vital records topic from the list.
- d. Select any record listed in the vital records topic.
- e. In the vital record, under the "Subjects" heading select the link called "Ohio, (your county)– vital records".
- f. Click on this blue subject link (i.e. Ohio, Adams - Vital Records).
- g. In the upper left corner you will find a heading titled "Search" containing the term Subject Number. Under that is the heading "For" with a number. Copy the number in the "For" field.
- h.Paste the number in template listed in #1 above replacing the number field in the template.
- While in the new FS Catalog on FamilySearch:
11. Hit enter on your keyboard.
12.. In the 'Summary:' box at the bottom of the page put: Adding OH vitals repositories template.
13. Click on the Save Page button.
- If you have questions about editing, go to wiki help links under the heading Description.
14. Mark the Assignment Chart below to indicate you have finished the task.
15. Also, report your finished task on the Ohio FamilySearch Completed Task Google Form. Follow the instructions on the Google form. This step is important for documenting completed wiki volunteer work. Thank you!

Vital Records

Vital records consist of birth, death, marriage and divorce records. Although Ohio enacted a statute in 1856 -1857 requiring registration of births, deaths and marriages, many did not comply. A second law occurred in 1867 but, again, was not always followed. By 1908, the law was more clearly defined and kept. Any existing birth and death records from 1867 through December 19, 1908 are located at the Mahoning County Probate Court. The Ohio Department of Health has birth records filed after December 20, 1908 and death records filed after January 1, 1954 while the Ohio Historical Society houses death records from December 20, 1908 through December 31, 1953. In addtion, the Youngstown City Health District has births 1909 to present and deaths 1892 to present.
Original marriage records are held at the office of the Mahoning County Probate Court with divorce records located with the Clerk of Court.

Assignment Chart
Remember that NOT all counties have records included in this task. Check the Assignment Chart below to choose a county to edit. If you are accepting this task:
- 1. Sign in to the wiki at the upper right-hand corner of this page. Use your FamilySearch account username and password.
- 2. Open the Assignment Chart for editing by clicking on the check mark in the box at the right opposite the Assignment Table heading.
- 3. Place your cursor in the box under the heading Name/Date Task Accepted and opposite your county of choice. Not all counties have records included in this task. Choose from the counties listed in the table below.
- 4. Type 4 tildes (~). This symbol is located on the upper left-hand part of your keyboard, next to the number 1. The ~~~~ is an electronic signature and will leave your user name and date when you signed.
- 5. Scroll nearly to the bottom of the page. Add a summary sentence in the Summary box saying something like, "Selected Adams County for adding FamilySearch Vital Records".
- 6. Click on the box "Save Page".
- 7. You are now signed up to complete this task.
If you are completing this task:
