Introduction[edit | edit source]

Probate records (testamenti și succesiuni) include wills and other declarations regarding the estate of deceased persons and the inheritance of their heirs. Probate records were kept in Romania starting in 1648 and continue to the present. Romanian wills, like all wills, can be used to prove family relationships. Other vital information may also be included according to who wrote the will. Coverage: 10% of the population can be found in these records. Content: Name and age of testator (who wrote the will), residence, legatees or heirs, relationships, descriptions of property, date of will and probate, and witnesses can be found in these records.

Accessing the Records: Probate records can be found in regional archives. There are no Romanian probate records in the FamilySearch Library.Expansion depth limit exceeded
