Guardianship records (tutori) are records of guardianship assignments for orphans and others whose legal status was unclear. They began being kept in 1648 and continue to the present. They are important for solving orphan parentage problems and determining place of residence and origin. Coverage: 5% of the population can be found in guardianship records. Content: Names of widows, children, deceased parents, guardians, witnesses, birth dates and ages, death dates, residences, and economic status can be listed in these records.
Accessing the Records: Guardianship records can be found in regional archives. The FamilySearch Library does not have any guardianship records.[1]
