Tax records

Tax records (registre de impozite) record the taxation of goods, services, and land and property. They start in some area of Romania as early as 1520 and continue to the present. Like land records, tax records were kept more rigorously in areas under Ottoman vassalage or occupation. These records can be used to locate individuals and families prior to or in areas, particularly in the Ottoman Turk area, where church records are incomplete or non-existent.

Coverage: 20-30% of the population can be found in tax records.

Content: Names of persons taxed, residence, farm names, removals, and dates of residence can be found in these records.
