THORNTON (St. Michael), a parish, in the union of Pocklington, partly in the Wilton-Beacon, but chiefly in the Holme-Beacon, division of the wapentake of Harthill, East Riding of York, 4¼ miles SW from Pocklington. Other places in the parish include: Allerthorpe, Melbourne, Waplington, Storwood, and Storthwaite. Non-Church of England denominations identified in Thornton with Allerthorpe include: Primitive Methodist and Wesleyan Methodist.[1]
