MARKINGFIELD, an extra-parochial place, in the liberty of Ripon, W. riding of York, 3 miles (S. S. W.) from Ripon. The old Hall, a large mansion formerly encompassed by a moat, was long the seat of the knightly family of Markingfield. [1]
