Information
The Philippines is an island country in Southeast Asia situated in the western Pacific Ocean. It was formerly a colony of Spain. The United States acquired the Philippines as a result of the 1898 Spanish-American War. The Philippines gained independence on 4 July 1946. The official languages are Filipino and English.[1]

Regions
In 1972 the Republic of the Philippines was organized into four administrative divisions: 1, regions; 2, provinces; 3, cities and municipalities; and 4, barangays, formerly referred to as barrios. The original organization included 11 regions, with additional regions created since that time. As of 30 June, 2019, the Philippines was divided into 17 regions.[2]
