Brief History

48th Infantry Regiment was formed at Auburn, Alabama, in May, 1862, . Its companies were recruited in the counties of Jackson, De Kalb, Cherokee, Marshall, Blount, Colbert, and Calhoun. The unit surrendered with 14 officers and 122 men.
