Task Description

Add information or links to the History area (located under Quick Facts on each county page) for the 29 counties.

What to include in this brief history:

• Events that affected the record-keeping, such as:
  • Fires, floods, and other natural disasters that destroyed the records
  • Settlement and migration into or out of the county. This can include an influx of settlers from specific countries, such as Scandinavians, or religious groups. How did that affect records and record-keeping?
  • Crop damage that led to ghost settlements.
  • Whatever is interesting and will help users know what happened, especially as it affected records and record-keeping.
• Links to Internet sites telling the history of the county.
  • Please be selective, especially if the sites are redundant.
  • Please also place those links under Local Histories, which appears under the Resources heading for each county.
• Selected interesting events that add color or uniqueness to this county.
  • For example, "Hole the Rock, the hideout of the famous gang of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, is in this county."
    • If you added something like this, it might be fun for users if you did a Google search and put a link to interesting articles on the Internet to items you mentioned, such as Hole in the Rock, Butch Cassidy, and Sundance Kid.

If you choose to do the History in a timeline:

• Please start each line with the year, then add the event description.
• You may repeat information under county formation, Boundary Changes, and Record Loss, all of which are also mentioned under Quick Facts.
  • There is a blank table you may use for your timeline on the Discussion page for this project page. Simply copy it in WikiText to the county you are working on.

If you choose to do the History in paragraph format:

• Please keep the paragraphs short. Reading things on the computer are far different than reading something in paper format, such as an article or a book.
