FamilySearch Wiki:Level 1 Jurisdiction Guidelines
This page describes the elements and design of the Level 1 Jurisdiction page delivered in 2023. Each Level 1 Jurisdiction page is considered the next level down from a country and will contain these elements.

Elements
- Title: The title of the Level 1 Jurisdiction page will be the known next jurisdiction from the country. Any new pages for a country will be determined after consulting specialists at the FamilySearch Library.
- Breadcrumb: A breadcrumb will be used linking back to the Country page (or in case like England, sub-regions, i.e. British Isles>United Kingdom>England). For example, Mexico< Colima.
- SEO Statement: An SEO statement will be added to the top of every country page to increase Search Engine Optimization. This statement should include:
- Name of Level 1 jurisdiction
- Name of Country
- "Ancestry, family history, genealogy"
- Major genealogy record types for the country
- This sentence will be coordinated under the direction of Wiki Executive Council.
- Header Two: The Level 1 Jurisdiction page will include the following labels for Header two:
- History Header: The header, History will be the first header on the page. It will include:
- Up to 5 bullet points of information
- Information will be concise and helpful to research in that area
- Not include population
- Should include references where the information came from
- Clickable Map/Map: If there are level 2 jurisdiction pages created, this should be a clickable map of the level 1 jurisdiction. If there is no level 2 jurisdiciton pages, this should just be a map
- List of Level 2 Jurisdictions: If wiki pages are created, a list of links to the Level 2 jurisdiction pages will be listed in alphabetical order. No red links should appear in this list. Use the <ul class to create the list.
- Resources: This Header 2 will be just before any list of record types relevant to the country's research.
- Header 3 - Record Types: All record types will be in alphabetical in order and there should always be one resource listed to be listed on the page (unless a project is impending).
- Standardized: Record types used should be standardized from country to country whenever possible. A complete list of approved Headers can be found here: List of Record Type Headers
- Collections listed: Follow these guidelines:
- Collections listed under record type headers can be either online or at a repository/library.
- Use the Manual of Style to format the links.
- Repeat countrywide databases under these record types, within reason.
- Do not list resources that are found in a lower jurisdiction page, unless there are no Level 2 jurisdiction pages available.
- Research Helps: A Research Helps template will be created for each country. These resources may change country to country and will be under the direction of Wiki Executive Council. Examples of Research Help templates can be found here: Research Help Templates
- References: This section will be there for the references used for any information listed on the page.
