Purpose of Page[edit | edit source]

  • This page describes the elements and design of the Level 2/3 Jurisdiction page delivered in 2023. Each Level 2/3 Jurisdiction page is considered the next level down from the Level 1 Jurisdiction page and will contain these elements.

Elements[edit | edit source]

  • Title: The title of the Level 2/3 Jurisdiction page will be the known next jurisdiction from the Level 1 (if a Level 2 jurisdiction list exists on the Level 1 page, it will be the next jurisdiction from Level 2).
  • Breadcrumb: A breadcrumb will be used linking back to higher jurisdiction pages but does not include region pages.
  • Infobox: A unique infobox may be created for the lowest jurisdiction of a country. A standard look will be implemented and determined by Wiki Executive Council.
  • SEO Statement: An SEO statement will be added to the top of every country page to increase Search Engine Optimization. This statement should include:
  • Name of Level 2/3 jurisdiction (page title)
  • Name of Level 1 (if applicable) jurisdiction
  • Name of Country
  • "Ancestry, family history, genealogy"
  • Major genealogy record types for the country
  • This sentence will be coordinated under the direction of Wiki Executive Council.
  • TOC: A table of contents must be on the Wiki page.
  • Header Two: The Level 2/3 Jurisdiction page will include the following labels for Header two:
  • History Header: The header, History will be the first header 2 on the page. It will include:
  • Up to 6 bullet points of information or 6 lines in a short paragraph
  • Information will be concise and helpful to research in that area
  • Not include population
  • Should include references where the information came from
  • Record Loss, if applicable can be added as a Header 3
  • Places: Or a different label can be used depending on the country.
  • Can include a map and links to relevant sub-jurisdiction information.
  • Header 3 of the following and additional headers as necessary:
  • Place Names
  • Village Names
  • Farm Names
  • Surrounding Parishes (or applicable place name) - links to surrounding places or a clickable map can be included
  • Resources: This Header 2 will be just before any list of record types relevant to the country's research.
  • Header 3 - Record Types: All record types will be in alphabetical in order and there should always be one resource listed to be listed on the page (unless a project is impending).
  • Standardized: Record types used should be standardized from country to country whenever possible. A complete list of approved Headers can be found here: List of Record Type Headers
  • Collections listed: Follow these guidelines:
  • Collections listed under record type headers can be either online or at a repository/library.
  • Use the Manual of Style to format the links.
  • Repeat countrywide databases under these record types, within reason.
  • Do not list resources that are found in a lower jurisdiction page, unless there are no Level 2 jurisdiction pages available.
  • Research Helps: A Research Helps template will be created for each country. These resources may change country to country and will be under the direction of Wiki Executive Council. Examples of Research Help templates can be found here: Research Help Templates
  • Repositories: will be listed as a header 2.
  • The following sentence will be listed directly below that header:
"For a list of FamilySearch Centers and Affiliate Libraries, see map."
  • Can also refer to other jurisdiction level pertinent repositories as necessary.
  • The following headers 3 will also be included under Repositories 2 header and the sentence.
  • Archives
  • Libraries
  • Societies
  • When pertinent, can also link to admin level 0 page section under any of these headings.
  • References: This section will be there for the references used for any information listed on the page.
  • The following wikitext code will be listed directly below that header: {{reflist}}
  • Category: Categories included are:
  • Country category
  • Name of Level 2/3 Jurisdiction
  • Name of Level 1 Jurisdiction
