Alabama in the Civil War
15th Regiment, Alabama Infantry
Brief History[edit | edit source]
15th Infantry Regiment was organized in August, 1861, at Fort Mitchell, Alabama. The men were recruited in Barbour, Russell, Dale, Henry, Macon, and Pike counties. The unit surrendered with 15 officers and 204 men at Appomattox.[1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
Companies by County:
- Company A (Cantey Rifles) - many men from Russell County
- Company B (Midway Southern Guards) - many men from Barbour County
- Company C - many men from Macon County
- Company D (Fort Browder Roughs) - many men from Barbour County
- Company E (Beauregards) - many men from Dale County
- Company F (Brundidge Guards) - many men from Pike County and Dale County
- Company G - many men from Henry County
- Company H (Glenville Guards) - many men from Barbour County and Dale County
- Company I - many men from Pike County
