Task Description

Add links to the FamilySearch Catalog for each topic of the 29 Utah counties.

This allows users to see whatever is available at the FamilySearch Library under every topic for each Utah county, without having to update the Wiki when the Library acquired new items.

This also allows important items to be highlighted, rather than buried in endless lists of resources.

Step-by-step

Step 1: Preparation

A. Sign up

Add your name to the sign up chart for the appropriate county, summarize your edit with the name of the county, and Save page
Click to that county

B. Open the FamilySearch Catalog for that county

Open a new window (In Windows Explorer use Ctrl+N keys)
At FamilySearch.org, select Catalog and do a Place-names search for the county. This will display the topics for that county

Note: Opening a new window (rather than a new tab) allows you to switch between the Catalog and the county Wiki page by using the Alt+Tab keys in Windows Explorer

Step 2: Copy and paste the FS Catalog paragraph

A. Copy the FS Catalog paragraph below (NOT in WikiText)

B. Paste the FS Catalog paragraph to the county page

Now in WikiText, place the cursor under the topic and paste.

Step 3. Change the FS Catalog paragraph to the correct county and topic

Edit (in WikiText) this part of the FS Catalog paragraph:

Utah, Beaver - Cemeteries|subject|disp=records of cemeteries

A. Change "Beaver" to the county you are working on.
B. Change "Cemeteries" to match the FS Catalog topic exactly -- otherwise the link won't work
C. Change "records of cemeteries" to the topic.

Be sure to leave the space-dash-space between the county and subject name)
Be sure to leave the "pipe" after the subject name you changed (The pipe is above the backslash "\" on the keyboard)

Note: "disp" means "display". It's what the user will see.
FYI: the PAGENAME template automatically displays the county name.

Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 to the end

Go to the next subject for the county in the FS Catalog
- Remember Alt+Tab to switch between them
Repeat steps 2 and 3
Summarize your edit "FS Catalog links to [subjects]"
Save Page

Step 5: Update the sign up chart

Add the date you finished the FS Catalog links for this county and enter "Done" in Remarks (unless you have other remarks to add)
Give your edit summary "[county] finished" and Save page

All topics for Beaver County, Utah have links to the FS Catalog (if there were items for that topic).

Volunteers are needed for each of the 29 counties, adding FS Catalog links as appropriate. Please place four tildes (~~~~) in the "Volunteer" column next to the counties you choose for this assignment. This will automatically give your username and the date you signed up.
