Task Description

Add links to online cemetery records for each of the 29 counties in Utah.

It is expected this task will take less than 15 minutes per county, after the first county you do.

Steps

Summary of steps:

• Step 1: Prepare the county Wiki page
• Step 2: Copy the Templates for the Cemeteries area
• Step 3: Finish the Find A Grave information

Step 1: Prepare the county Wiki page

Under the Cemeteries heading, simply press Enter three times to move any existing content down and make room for what you will add.

NOTE: we repect the work of others, so we don't want to change their work at this point in the task.

Step 2: Copy the Templates for the Cemeteries area

A template is a standard paragraph that is used over and over. Using a template allows updates or changes to be made once and appear wherever the template has been placed. When you are in WikiText, a template is surrounded by two "squiggly brackets" {{template name}}

In this step, you will copy, then paste templates to the county under the "Cemeteries" heading. Here's how:

Please copy the following (NOT in edit mode): {{UTCoCemeteries}} *[http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cs&{{UTCemeteriesFindAGrave}}	Highlight and copy all of it Be sure you are not in Edit mode Get the two squiggly brackets at the very beginning {{ and at the very end }}	As mentioned, these templates have wording that will be used in every county.
B. Paste the templates to the county page.	a) Click the Edit box for the "Cemeteries" section b) Click WikiText c) Place the cursor below the "Cemeteries" heading and press Ctrl+ V
D. Summarize your edit and Save page	a) In the summary type "Cems - added templates" b) Save page	Once you Save page, the wording in the templates will appear.

Step 3: Finish the Find A Grave information

In this step, you will edit the link to Find A Grave to match the county you are working on. Here's how:

A. Get the Find A Grave URL that matches the current county	a) Click the link on the county Wiki page b) Select USA as the country c) Select Utah as the state d) Select the county e) Copy the URL for that county (Ctrl+C)	The link takes you out of the Wiki to the Cemetery Search part of the Find A Grave site.
B. On the county Wiki page, change the main Find A Grave URL to the county Find A Grave URL	a) Exit the Find A Grave site b) On the county Wiki page, click to edit (in WikiText) the Cemeteries section c) Erase the previous URL (Starting with "http:" and ending with "amp;" d)Place your cursor between "*[" and the two left sqiggly brackets "{{" e) Paste the Find A Grave URL for the county (Ctrl+V)	a) Red X in upper right corner In c), be sure you erase the ending semi-colon
C. Summarize your edit and Save page	a) In the summary type "Set Find A Grave URL to county" b) Save page	Congratulations! Good job!

To finish before project is ready for volunteers

• Utah burial database
  • To get this database ready, create template: Needs to explain only the first 200 are shown. If you need additional results, please refine your query. Utah Cemetery and Burial Database by Utah State History a division of Utah Department of Community and Culture.
  • Can people search by county? Yes, but with only 200 results displayed. Tell the choices. Link to the spot, does not need to be changed county by county.
• USGenWeb tombstone project for Utah. usually gives the names of the deceased in alphabetical order by last name with birth and death dates plus any remarks.
• Billion Graves
• Cemeteries for Utah -- google search for Utah Cemeteries
• Beaver Epodunk gives the names of the cemeteries in the county with a link to a map and more information such as address, phone number, and web site.

  • needs full instructions, or can someone figure it out from the way Find A Grave was done?
