The languages spoken on the Faroe Islands include:
- Faroese
- It is spoken in the entire area as a first language.
- The numbers who speak Faroese are unclear since many ethnic Faroese live in Faroe Island and Denmark
- Faroese is most similar to Icelandic and to their ancestor Old Norse, but is closer to Norwegian dialects of Western Norway
- Danish
- It is the second official language
- Danish is taught in schools
- It can be used by the government in public relations [1]
