Census Records [Fólkatal]

Censuses are excellent sources to identify individuals and family relationships. Census returns are arranged by town, village, parish, district, and county.

Generally these records contain the names of members of the household, their civil states, ages or birth dates, occupations, relationships to the head of household. In 1845 the census began recordng the person's places of birth.

Original records are held by the National Archives of Denmark (Rigsarkivet) in Copenhagen, Denmark.
