Oaths of Allegiance
Research use: The lists provide names, occupations and family relationships; a useful supplement to civil and church records.
Record type: Public records.
Time period: 1810-1813.
Contents: Lists of those who swore an oath of allegiance to Great Britain after the British conquest and occupation of Mauritius during the Napoleonic wars. Also includes those who refused to swear allegiance to Great Britain. Names, occupations, and family relationships usually given.
Location: Mauritius Central Archive and other archives.
Population coverage: Approximately 95% of French citizens.
