Instructions[edit | edit source]

Create Image Map Template[edit | edit source]

1. Create image map, instructions here.

2. After you have finished making the map clickable, and after you have clicked "Create Image Map" on the Map Editor Tool, copy all of the generated Wikitext code.

3. Navigate to the corresponding Wiki page for the map you just did (for example: the map for La Libertad Department in El Salvador goes on the page "La Libertad, El Salvador Genealogy").

4. There should be red template code above the list of sub-localities. Click on the red template code.

5. Paste the code you copied from the Map Editor Tool into the empty template.

6. Follow all the bullet points on step 3 of this heading of the map instructions.

7. For the country you are working on, copy the corresponding wikitext for the category and add it to the very bottom of the template page:

<noinclude>[[Categoría:Mapas de Perú]]</noinclude>

<noinclude>[[Categoría:Mapas de El Salvador]]</noinclude>

<noinclude>[[Categoría:Mapas de Honduras]]</noinclude>

<noinclude>[[Categoría:Mapas de Colombia]]</noinclude>

<noinclude>[[Categoría:Mapas de Costa Rica]]</noinclude>

<noinclude>[[Categoría:Mapas de Nicaragua]]</noinclude>

<noinclude>[[Categoría:Mapas de Ecuador]]</noinclude>

<noinclude>[[Categoría:Mapas de México]]</noinclude>

<noinclude>[[Categoría:Mapas de Venezuela]]</noinclude>

8. Click "Show preview" on the new map template you just created and see how big the map is.

  • These images are pretty large, so the map may fill most of your screen.

9. If the image is pretty large, make it a bit smaller by adjusting the pixel size as needed so it fits nicely on the page (see screenshot example below).

  • You can modify the pixel size as needed, but the ultimate size should roughly mirror the size found here on this example.

10. Once the pixel size looks good, Save changes for the template, and check out the final product on the corresponding Wiki page that the template appears in, to make sure everything looks good.

11. When you hover over the different areas of the map, your cursor should have a label of the locality pop up next to it, indicating that it is clickable. Do a quick check to make sure all the sections are clickable to the correct corresponding locations.
