House books (Hausbücher)
House books often a very useful linkage tool as ages and names of all family members are given for various time periods. It often lists the owners and residents of a given house. In addition it may contain ages, family relationships, taxes paid, dates of residence of individuals and families.
Land and Tenancy Records
Land and Tenancy records (Grundbücher und Prästationstabellen) consist of declarations of land ownership, tenancy and purchase agreements. The records can be begin as early as 1200 and go to the present. Information that may be found in these records include names of land holders and renters, taxes and rent paid, dates of deeds, residence, description of land, names of fathers and sometimes of several generations of ancestors; date and mode of land acquisition (from a parent or grandparent, by dowry, or partage (division). These records can be located in city archives, state archives, courthouses.
