History

The name "Symbirshafn" from 1161 is old Danish for "Simiris' harbor". The parish was formed when the city of Simrishamn was founded in the Middle Ages and remained it's own parish until 1578 when it became mother parish to nearby Järrestad pastorate. The parish name was also written as "Cimbritshamn" before 1868. Simrishamn's church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, began as a fisherman's chapel sometime before the 1600s. The floor of the church is largely covered by tombstones. [1][2][3]

Places

See a Swedish Gazetteer for more information about a place.

The city is divided up in quarters and the husförhör is following that pattern.

In 1815 - 1820 Husförhör there is a list starting on Bild 160 which is a record of the tax-paying people of the city.
