Types of Censuses[edit | edit source]
British Census[edit | edit source]
The British census conducted in Bahrain in 1941 and 1950 aimed to gather comprehensive demographic data to aid in administrative and governance efforts. These censuses collected information on gender, age, nationality, occupation, and religion, providing valuable insights into the population structure and socio-economic conditions of Bahrain at the time. This data was crucial for planning and implementing policies, managing resources, and understanding the diverse communities within Bahrain. According to the 1941 census, the population consisted of 82% Bahraini and 12% Non-Bahraini. The Qatar Digital Library contains a folio of correspondence about the census in 1950.
Bahraini Census[edit | edit source]
Since Bahrain's independence in 1971, the Al Khalifa family has conducted several censuses to gather demographic and socio-economic data. These censuses, carried out in 1981, 1991, 2001, 2010, and 2020, have provided valuable insights into the population's structure, growth, and living conditions. The data collected helps in planning and implementing national policies, managing resources, and addressing the needs of Bahrain's diverse communities. Census data is now collected by the Information & eGovernment Authority of Bahrain.
