Guide to Bahrain ancestry, family history and genealogy: parish registers, transcripts, census records, birth records, marriage records, and death records.
Information[edit | edit source]
Bahrain is an island country in the Middle East whose nearest neighbors are Saudi Arabia and Qatar. In the late 18th century, the Khalifa family seized control of Bahrain Island from Persia and established Arab rule. [1]
In 1913, Britain and the Ottoman Empire signed a treaty to recognize Bahrain's independence. However, the British remained in control until 1971, when Bahrain declared independence. The official language is Arabic. In 1986, the King Fahd causeway (a series of bridges) was built, linking Bahrain to the mainland of Saudi Arabia. [2]
