Family Story Room

[edit | edit source]

The Riverton FamilySearch Center Family Story Room is available to record your family's stories. Each session can record up to an hour of interrupted time. The facility is designed to accommodate individuals or groups of 10 comfortably. With some arranging, we have had groups as large as 26 where some stood or sat in front.

The space is designed with state-of-the-art audio and video technology. The comfortable furnishings and sound-proofed interior provide a quiet, secluded area, ideal for recording personal histories. All our digital audio and video equipment is designed with the most recently released technology and has been programmed to make recording oral histories and interviews easy. Our qualified staff will provide all technical support for your recording session.

Preparation[edit | edit source]

Family history interviews are a good way to capture memories before they are lost. They help you verify and preserve names and dates—the sort of information you would typically record on a family group sheet or pedigree chart. These interviews are also one of the best ways to preserve a wealth of stories, testimonies, thoughts, and feelings.

Options for recording: One person can record themselves reading or verbalizing their memories or histories. Two or more people can record a conversation or share memories with each other. One person can interview others while recording their responses. A small family group, up to 10 people at a time, can share stories or one person can interview multiple people.

You will need to bring a USB drive for use in the Family Story Room. It needs to be a minimum of 8 GB (for recording up to two hours). We are no longer requiring that the USB drive be in a new, unopened package.
