PAPER BASICS: SAVING YOUR FAMILY'S PAPER BASED HISTORY - Wednesday, 22 February 2017, at 11 AM - Have you got original documents that need to be preserved?.... Letters, diaries, journals, certificates, citizenship papers, family Bibles... before they crumble into dust let Karen Zukor teach you the basics of preservation. Come listen to her presentation on the factors that damage paper and how to properly handle, store and display those items that are both inherently valuable and inherently fragile. Karen has been a professional paper conservator for almost thirty years and is a Fellow of the American Institute for Conservation. She has been responsible for many collections - including fine art, archival material, maps, documents, and rare books - held both in private hands and at institutions. In addition, she has trained both pre- and post-program interns for over twenty years, and lectures widely to the general public. You won't want to miss this exciting opportunity. The Oakland (California) Regional Family History Center is one of the largest and most accessible centers for genealogical research in California, with over 9,000 volumes of books, periodicals, family histories, city and county histories, city directories, plus over 37,000 reels of microfilm and 9,000 microfiche containing millions of local vital records and historical census data from all over the world.
