Purpose

Adding a unique newspaper link from Ancestry to each state's county pages

Task List

Part A - Sign Up for a State

Step One - Sign Up

  • Go to the task list and sign your name for a state to work on: task list. You will edit all the counties for the state you signed up for.



Step Two - Use Table of Contents

  • Using the table of contents at the top of the page, click on the header for your state.



Step Three - Copy the Wikitext for the Link

  • Copy the wikitext under the header for your state and return to the task list.



Step Four - Edit the Newspapers Header

  • Click on the link for the county you are working on and click on Newspapers in the Table of Contents.



  • Click on Edit source next to Newspapers and paste the link you copied onto the county page.

Step Five - Paste the Link on the County Page

  • Review the collections already under the header. Use the instructions listed by the link for the state to determine where it should go on the page.

  • Paste the link in the correct place listed in the previous bullet.

Exceptions:

  • If the link is already on the page, replace it with this new link to make it match the new manual of style. Do not worry about other entries on the page that are not in accordance with the manual of style.


Step Six - Check the Database and Save the Page

  • Click Show Preview to make sure it looks good and the link works.



  • Enter in the Summary and click Save changes:

Step Seven - Go to the Next County

  • Once you have saved the page, return to the task list and put the date next to the county.

  • Go to the next county on the list. When you have finished all the counties, sign up for a new state and repeat the steps above.
