The Directorate of Civil Affairs in the Ministry of Interior is in charge of the registration of birth, death, marriage, and divorce, as well as ID cards and family booklets.[1]

Historical Background[edit | edit source]

In 1516, Syria was conquered by the Ottoman Empire. After WWI, France had control of the area of Syria. In April 1946, Syria became an independent republic.
