Before the Great Fire (1666)

A very useful guide for finding London property records predating the Great Fire has been made available online:

  • A Survey of Documentary Sources for Property Holding in London before the Great Fire: London Record Society, 22 (1985). Available [1], courtesy: [2].

Feet of Fines

During the medieval period, archival copies of agreements between two parties concerning land lawsuits were known as feet of fines.[1]

Many of these old records have been published:

  • Hardy, W.J. and W. Page. A Calendar to the Feet of Fines for London & Middlesex. Vol. I: Richard I to Richard III. London: Hardy & Page, 1892. Digital version at Family History Archives.
