Brief History

The 3rd Regiment, Connecticut Infantry was organized at New Haven.  They mustered in May 14, 1861.  On the 12th day of August, 1864 this regiment was mustered out of service at Hartford.

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always.  This regiment was composed of men from all parts of Connecticut.

Infantry Company A was largely formed by men from Fairfield County.  It was mustered into service May 14, 1861. 

Infantry Company B was largely formed by men from New Haven County.  It was mustered into service May 11, 1861. 

Infantry Company C was largely formed by men from Fairfield County.  It was mustered into service May 14, 1861.

Infantry Company D was largely formed by men from Fairfield County.  It was mustered into service May 11, 1861. 

Rifle Company A was largely formed by men from Hartford County.  It was mustered into service May 11, 1861. 

Rifle Company B was largely formed by men from New Haven County.  It was mustered into service May 14, 1861. 

Rifle Company C was largely formed by men from New Haven County.  It was mustered into service May 14, 1861.  

Rifle Company D was largely formed by men from New London County.  It was mustered into service May 11, 1861. 

Rifle Company E was largely formed by men from Hartford County.  It was mustered into service May 11, 1861. 

Rifle Company F was largely formed by men from Fairfield County.  It was mustered into service  May 14, 1861.
