-Tigrinya, about 50% of population, mostly Christian, some Muslim
-Tigre, about 30% of the population, mostly Muslim
-Afar, about 5%, Muslim
-Saho, about 5%, mostly Muslim
-Hedareb, about 2.5%, Muslim
-Bilen, about 2%, about half Muslim and half Christian
