Italian Colonization (1882-1941)

In 1882, the Kingdom of Italy established it's first colonies in Eritrea near Assab. However, the area of present-day Eritrea was not formally colonized until 1890. Italian colonization ended in 1941 when Great Britain conquered Eritrea.

British Colonization (1941-1958)

In 1941, Britain conquered Eritrea, placing the colony under British Military administration. This continued until 1950, when the UN General Assembly passed a provision which terminated British control no later than 1952.
