Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 2nd Regiment, Kansas Infantry was organized at Lawrence for three months May, 1861 and mustered in at Kansas City June 20, 1861. It mustered out October 31, 1861.[1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
The 2nd Regiment consisted of companies that included men from Atchison, Bourbon, Brown Doniphan, Chase, Miami, Linn, Osage, Shawnee and Wyandotte counties.Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
