Information[edit | edit source]
Iraq is a country in Western Asia, bordered by Turkey to the north, Iran to the east, Kuwait to the southeast, Saudi Arabia to the south, Jordan to the southwest, and Syria to the west. Historically, Iraq was known as Mesopotamia and was governed by various civilizations such as the Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians, and Assyrians. Iraq was also part of the Ottoman Empire until the end of World War I, after which it came under the British mandate until gaining independence in 1932. The main spoken languages in Iraq are Arabic and Kurdish, with Arabic being the most widely spoken, followed by Kurdish, and minority languages such as Turkmen, Neo-Aramaic, and Armenian.
