Instructions[edit | edit source]
Step One - Review the Wiki Page[edit | edit source]
1. Go to the task list and sign up for a Wiki page to review. Click on the link to go to the Wiki page.
2. Review the Wiki page to see if it has a breadcrumb.
Part One - Wiki Page has a breadcrumb[edit | edit source]
1. If the Wiki page has a breadcrumb, click on Edit Source at the very top of the Wiki page.
2. Copy the following wikitext and paste it at the very top of the Wiki page. It should be above the breadcrumb tha tis already on the page.

3. Go back to the task list to get guidance on how to create the breadcrumb found in columns D through H. If it is different from what is already on the page, use only the task list as your guide.
4. Go to “|link1=” and add the appropriate link to the breadcrumb according to the task list.
5. Next go to “|link2=” and add the appropriate link to the breadcrumb according to the task list.
6. Continue to do this for all breadcrumb links as found on the task list.
7. For last link, you will add the name of the page you are on. Copy the name of the page (do not include Editing in the phrase) at the top of the page and paste it directly after “| link5=”.
Things to Remember:
- If the page name has the word, Genealogy as a part of it, drop it from the link title. For example, |link2= Ohio
- The last link can have an abbreviated form of the Wiki page, leaving off the state or other info. For example, |link5= Warren County
8. Locate the old breadcrumb on the page and remove it. Be careful not to delete anything else on the page.
9. Once the breadcrumb is created, go to the bottom of the page and click on "Show preview". Check the top of the page to make sure the new breadcrumb looks correct and there are no red links. It should look like this:
![]()
Wikitext for example:

10. In the Edit Summary field, copy and paste the following wikitext:
Formatted breadcrumb - project <r>
11. Return to the task list to type in the date when you completed it and choose the next wiki page on the list.
Examples[edit | edit source]
On a Civil War page: 1st Battalion, Maryland Infantry
Wikitext example:
