Task List
Instructions
NOTE ABOUT URLS ON TASK LIST: Most cells on this task list contain 3 urls. The url you wish to click on to get to the correct Wiki page is the first link in the list that pops up. Ignore the other two links.
Step One - Choose a Wiki Page From the Task List
1. Go to the task list and sign up for a Wiki page to review. Click on the link to go to the Wiki page.
Step Two - Add the New Breadcrumb Wikitext Code
1. Click on Edit Source at the very top of the Wiki page.
2. Copy the following wikitext and paste it at the very top of the Wiki page before any other code. It should be above the breadcrumb that is already on the page, if there is one.

Step Three - Add the Links to the Breadcrumb
1.Go back to the task list for guidance on how to create the breadcrumb. The example for the page type is found in columns D through H. If it is different from the breadcrumb already on the page, use only what is on the task list as your guide.
2. Go to “| link1=” and add the appropriate link to the breadcrumb according to the task list.
3. Next go to “| link2=” and add the appropriate link to the breadcrumb according to the task list.
4. Continue to do this for all breadcrumb links as found on the task list.
5. For last link, you will add the name of the page you are on. Copy the name of the page (do not include "Editing" in the phrase) at the top of the page and paste it directly after “| link5=”.
Things to Remember:
- Follow the example as much as you can. If your page is different and the breadcrumbs don't appear to apply, put the note, "Check Breadcrumb" in the date column and do what you think is correct.
- The Wiki pages are grouped together by page type, but you may have to determine a lower jurisdiction page from the Wiki page (especially if there is no previous breadcrumb to refer to). For example, A Comprehensive List of Birmingham Parishes and Chapels Wiki page does not have the county in the title, thus, you must view the page for the county Warwickshire - either in the breadcrumb or the category. If you are unsure, make a note on the task list to be double checked.
- Do not include any underscores in the link title.
- If the page name has the word, Genealogy as a part of it, drop it from the link title. For a correct example, | link2= Ohio
- The last link can have an abbreviated form of the Wiki page, leaving off the state or other info. For a correct example, | link5= Warren County
- Do not use the PAGETITLE template for any part of the breadcrumb.
- For more information about creating breadcrumbs, refer to the Wiki University lesson.
Step Four - Remove the Old Breadcrumb
1. Locate the old breadcrumb on the page and remove it. Be careful not to delete anything else on the page. If there is no breadcrumb, go to Step Five.
Step Five - Preview and Save the Page
1. Once the breadcrumb is created, go to the bottom of the page and click on "Show preview". Check the top of the page to make sure the new breadcrumb looks correct and there are no red links. It should look like this:
![]()
Wikitext example:

2. In the Edit Summary field, copy and paste the following wikitext:
Formatted breadcrumb - project
3. Return to the task list to type in the date when you completed it and choose the next wiki page on the list.
Examples
Wikitext example:
