Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 3rd Regiment, Connecticut Infantry was organized at New Haven.  They mustered in May 14, 1861.  On the 12th day of August, 1864 this regiment was mustered out of service at Hartford.

Companies in this Regiment[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always.  This regiment was composed of men from all parts of Connecticut.

Infantry Company A was largely formed by men from Fairfield County

Infantry Company B was largely formed by men from New Haven County.   

Infantry Company C was largely formed by men from Fairfield County

Infantry Company D was largely formed by men from Fairfield County

Rifle Company A was largely formed by men from Hartford County

Rifle Company B was largely formed by men from New Haven County

Rifle Company C was largely formed by men from New Haven County

Rifle Company D was largely formed by men from New London County

Rifle Company E was largely formed by men from Hartford County.

Rifle Company F was largely formed by men from Fairfield County
