Parish History

HAYES, or HEESE, village, a parish, and a sub-district, in Uxbridge district, Middlesex. The village stands near the Grand Junction Canal and the Great Western railway, 3½ miles SE of Uxbridge.[1]

Hayes St. Mary, an [ancient] parish [1557], in the union of Uxbridge, hundred of Elthorne, county of Middlesex, 2 miles west by northwest from Southall (with the hamlets of Botwell and Yeading).

The following two chapelries also subdivided Hayes Parish:

  • Norwood - 1654
  • Southall Green - 1839

Nonconformist churches were built for Baptists, Independents and Methodists as well.[2]
