36th Regiment, Alabama Infantry
Brief History[edit | edit source]
36th Infantry Regiment was organized at Mount Vernon, Alabama, in May, 1862, with men from Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Greene, Fayette, Sumter, and Monroe counties. Few were included in the surrender on May 4, 1865.[1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
Companies by County:
- Company A - many men from Sumter County
- Company B - many men from Greene County
- Company C - many men from Greene County
- Company D - many men from Tuscaloosa County and Fayette County
- Company E - many men from Mobile County
- Company F - many men from Monroe County
- Company G - many men from Monroe County

The list of companies with their counties is found on history-sites.com web site.
