The Dutch colonies in Asia were run by the Dutch East India Company, in Dutch Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC). VOC documents are kept in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Netherlands, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.

In the Netherlands the VOC records are kept at the Dutch National Archive (Nationaal Archief) in The Hague. The VOC section is indexed as 1.04 (subsections 1.04.01 to 1.04.23). Most of the records have been digitized into an online database that can be publicly viewed.
