FamilySearch 2 - Cleaning Up Your Family Tree-Online

Presented by L. Moulton - Click the links for the class handouts. Week 1 - Week 2 - Week 3 - Week 4

This four-lesson class will teach patrons how to go through their family trees systematically, cleaning as they go. This method results in more complete and more correct trees. Patrons will learn the importance of: getting to know their ancestors, evaluating what they know, determining what information they are missing, and learning how and where to find this missing information. They will get an overview of available records, what information those records might contain, and search strategies to find them. Finally, they will learn how to solve conflicting data by evaluating sources and the information in them.

Virtual Pedigree-Online

You will learn how to use Virtual Pedigree created by BYU. It is a great tool that enables a user to find temple ordinances opportunities for direct-line and in-direct line aunts, uncles, and cousins. Virtual Pedigree is a FamilySearch compatible solution. This means they retrieve your family tree directly from FamilySearch.org. When you find a problem in your tree you can go directly to FamilySearch.org to fix it. Virtual Pedigree allows you to intuitively navigate your tree without ever loading a new page. You can actually see your entire tree at once!
